One of Vin Scully's most famous calls was Kirk Gibson's home run in the bottom of the ninth in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. From the time Gibson stepped out of the dugout -- "And look who's coming up" -- to his hobble around the bases -- "In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened" -- Scully was masterful as always in his description.

But here's something about this classic moment that most fans don't know. Scully had a hand in getting Gibson, practically crippled with a pulled hamstring in one leg and a bad knee in the other, to the plate. It was totally unintentional, but as Scully told the story two years ago at the Harold & Carole Pump Foundation awards dinner, Gibson reacted to something Vin said on the telecast.

The video above is 9 1/2 minutes of pure Scully as he gives his acceptance speech after receiving a lifetime achievement award from the foundation. It includes this Gibson story, an embarrassing moment from his early days in Brooklyn and more.
