When it comes to cheat day, noted fitness buff Shannon Sharpe prefers sweet breakfast dishes.

"Pancakes or french toast," Sharpe says.

If it's something savory, Sharpe allows for the occasional order of chicken tenders at the movie theater.

"But that's about it," he says. "I do meal prep. It's mainly chicken, turkey, bison, sweet potatoes, brown rice, broccoli -- things of that nature. For every cheat meal, I'm eating probably 9, 10, 12 strict meals."

That dedication, along with his intense workouts, is a big reason why Sharpe, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011, can continue to post photos of his killer physique on Instagram as a 51-year-old. The schedule for his daily FS1 show "Skip and Shannon: Undisputed" is demanding. He wakes up at 3 a.m. He's ready for his call time at 4 a.m. And being in the TV business, he understands that visuals matter.

"A large part of who and what I am has to do with my appearance," he says.

About a year and a half ago, Sharpe added a clinically studied supplement called Tru Niagen to his regimen and found that it gave him "pep in my step" to maintain his workout schedule.

The key to Tru Niagen's effectiveness is a molecule known to the scientific community as Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, but goes by NAD in everyday usage. NAD is present in all of your cells, but their levels may decrease by 50 percent between ages 40-60. That's a big consideration for anyone seeing as how NAD contributes to basic functions like sleeping, breathing and eating, and it's even more of a factor for someone who grinds as hard as Sharpe does in the gym.
