Tony Romo will make his PGA Tour debut Thursday at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic. The former Cowboys quarterback received a sponsor's exemption to play this tournament, which could use a boost of star power as most of the tour's top players are in Texas for the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play event.

One of Romo's close friends and colleagues will do his best to follow the action. Jim Nantz is calling NCAA tournament games at the Omaha regional Friday and Sunday on CBS, the same network that he and Romo serve as the No. 1 NFL broadcast team.

"His golf ability far exceeds mine," Nantz says. "He doesn't need any advice from me. I wish him well though ... I'm excited for him."

Nantz played college golf at University of Houston with Fred Couples and Blaine McCallister, but age is at least one reason why he says Romo is better now. He's 58, and the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback is 37. Romo, who fell six strokes short of qualifying for the U.S. Open last year, is listed as a +0.3 handicap (just better than scratch). Nantz is a 9.7.

While talking with ThePostGame at CBS Sports/Turner Sports March Madness Media Day, Nantz did recount having Romo call his own shot on the 17th hole on TV while at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this year.

"I loved every minute of it," Nantz says. "Like everything else, I've been involved with with Tony, it's always fun, it's always good. It's just two buddies having a good time."

Nantz says there are no plans for Romo to be part of CBS' coverage of The Masters in two weeks. Maybe if Romo makes the cut this week, it might be time to get him more involved in golf broadcasting.

Romo tees off at 8:10 a.m. ET. Among the recognizable names in the field: Jim Furyk, Retief Goosen, Smylie Kaufman, Ricky Barnes, Hunter Mahan, Trevor Immelman, Angel Cabrera, Graeme McDowell, Davis Love III and K.J. Choi.
