Central Michigan Cheerleaders

Tuesday night's Toledo-Central Michigan game will be remembered as a watershed moment in home-field advantage history.

With Toledo leading 21-17 and driving in the second half, Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, revved up the volume. Apparently, too much for the referee's liking.

Yes, the official tells the Chippewas' band and cheerleaders they cannot interrupt the snap. Bands and cheerleaders have been part of college football for more than a century. Their only role is to annoy the visiting team. That principle was questioned Tuesday.

Toledo won, 28-23, possibly thanks to a more friendly away environment in the fourth quarter.

The band was not even on the field.

And if a referee is going to give the band and cheerleaders a penalty, it should be "giving them the business."
