How much would you pay for a piece of history?
That's what many Duke basketball fans are asking themselves now, as they ponder whether to drop a six-figure sum on the jersey worn by Christian Laettner during one of the most iconic moments in college basketball history.
As first reported by Darren Rovell of ESPN, the auction house Lelands is selling what it claims to be the jersey worn by Laettner in 1992 when he hit a buzzer-beater to push the Blue Devils past Kentucky and into the Final Four. Duke went on to repeat as national champions that year.
Laettner, who finished that game 10-for-10 from the field and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line for a total of 31 points, was the college player of the year in 1992.
The reserve price for the jersey (below) is $100,000.
According to Rovell, the highest price paid for a game-used basketball jersey is believed to be $250,000, which was paid for a Virginia Squires jersey worn by Julius Erving.
Hopefully this jersey doesn't fall into the wrong hands, because as we've seen before, Kentucky fans are still bitter about that game.
