From 3,000 hits to the top of the sporting world, the Yankees captain continues to live a charmed life.

Derek Jeter finished No. 1 in the latest Harris Poll of America's favorite sports stars. The legendary shortstop edged out Colts star Peyton Manning who finished second.

Jeter has been in the top 10 on the list since 2004, but this is the first year he's been the big winner.

The Yankees star was No. 1 with men, Baby Boomers and people living in the East.

NBA icon Michael Jordan, last year's No. 1 athlete, slid down into a third-place tie with Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

Jordan hasn't played a game since 2003, but has been on the list every year since 1993 and was in the top spot for 12 years (1993-2005)

Despite his poor performance on and off the golf course, Tiger Woods is still ranks sixth most popular, according to the survey.

Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols and Steelers WR Hines Ward tied for seventh, followed by NBA MVP Derrick Rose of the Bulls and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers rounding out the top 10.
