Ben Zobrist broke out the secret weapon: Shoes guaranteed to make a kid run faster and jump higher, P.F. Flyers.
The Cubs second baseman, who lives a mile from Wrigley Field, biked to the stadium in full uniform Saturday. With an old-fashioned mitt and his Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez-inspired P.F. Flyers, Zobrist looked like he came right out of The Sandlot. Zobrist's wife, Christian singer Julianna (née Gilmore), captured the moment on Instagram, as their son, Zion, rode along.
The Cubs clinched the Central last Thursday and sit atop the National League standings by six games with 13 games to play. If there is any time to experiment with scenes from a classic baseball film, it is now. The Cubs lost to the Brewers 11-1 on Saturday with Zobrist on the bench and 3-1 on Sunday with Zobrist going 0-for-4.
Maybe he should try the P.F. Flyers in an actual game.
