Breshad Perriman

Breshad Perriman woke up thinking a haircut might improve his look. But it might end up improving his performance on the football field, too.

The Baltimore Ravens rookie stumbled upon a surprising discovery when he shaved off his dreadlocks -- he lost a significant amount of weight in the process.

"I feel much lighter," Perriman tells ESPN. "Once I cut it, I weighed myself, and I lost three or four pounds. It was crazy."

That's enough weight to possibly have a real impact on his performance, especially where speed is concerned. Three or four fewer pounds to carry could give him an extra step against defenders.

ESPN points out that Ravens wideout Torrey Smith undertook a substantial haircut in 2013, and went on to have a career-best season with 65 catches, 1,128 receiving yards, and four touchdowns.

Maybe Perriman can replicate that success. Just make sure the man wears a hat when winter rolls around -- he's going to need it.
